324 A Well-Travelled Dominion Bank Counterfeit
A Dominion Bank Four Dollar note of 1871, contemporary counterfeit with a 20 Reichspfennig German revenue stamp dated December 8, 1930. The note bears the notation "Counterfeit" three times on front in red ink, as well as a written reference to Baden, Germany, where this note was presumably first negotiated. The fascinating piece reached its final destination in the hands of the Dominion Bank manager on Toronto Island in the early 1930's, whose used to travel back to the mainland at the end of each business day with a seven-shot pistol in his vest pocket, in the secure company of the ferry captain's wheelhouse. A pleasant note with nice detail, although technically very rough with missing pieces and held together wth tape, etc. Nothwithstanding it's "illegitimate" status, a fascinating piece of Dominion Bank history.
